What are ways to market an interior design business?

Looking for ways to bring your interior design business to the next level? These strategies will help you market your services to new customers and continually grow your audience.

  1. Start a blog & post regularly

Write how-to articles, make tutorials and share practical tips to answer questions and problems your ideal client is facing. 

Make sure these articles are complete. This isn’t just a tease to sell one of your service. You want your readers to leave with useful information they can actually implement. By publishing valuable content you are becoming a trustworthy source of inspiration and expertise. 

If you help your audience, they will gladly come back to you when they need your services. 

Not sure what to write about? First define clearly your audience and take some time to understand their current situation, what they are struggling with, the questions they have and what they are looking for. 

You can use tools such as Answer The Public to see the most common questions that are being asked on the Internet regarding one specific topic. 

Decide ahead of time the frequency you want to post (1 article per week for example) and plan ahead of time the topics you will be talking about. 

  1. Build a strong presence on social media

Social media is a must to grow your interior design business. It is a great tool to grow your audience and build a community, to share updates about your company, to showcase your experience, and to promote your services. 

It’s better to start with just one or two platforms and be really involved on these before trying to be everywhere at the same time. 

Pinterest and Instagram are two great social media platforms for interior designers as they are highly visual. This is a great opportunity to help you share your vision, style and be a source of inspiration and to really stand out next to your competition. 

Make sure to always post all your blogs on your platforms and don’t be afraid to reshare some older articles from time to time. 

  1. Send monthly newsletters

Email marketing is one of the best way to stay in touch with your past clients, future clients, potential clients, and current clients! Sending a regular newsletter to your audience will help you to stay top of mind and to make sure they don’t miss important information about your business. 

Find a frequency that you can keep up with - we usually recommend to start with a monthly newsletter and increase the number of emails when you have the capacity to do it. 

Your newsletter is a great place to share: 

-        Your latest and most popular blogs

-        Services you would liketo highlight that month 

-        A current promotion or deal

-        A project you have worked on - you can include a before/after picture for example

-        Other tips or inspiration 

  1. Pitch your top projects to the press

Getting published in one of your favorite interior design magazine isn’t only a fantastic way to celebrate your accomplishments, it is also one of the best way to get new customers! 

And getting your name printed in the press isn’t about being lucky. With a good PR strategy, you can get there too!. 

The collaboration with the press needs to be a win-win relationship. It will obviously be beneficial for you as it is a great way to advertise your business. But it also needs to be beneficial for the press otherwise they will not be interested in your pitch. 

The first and most important step is to list the media outlets that have the same audience as you and that make sense to partner with. Get to know the magazine and its editorial team. Do your research to understand which angle they will be most interested in.

  1. Ask for reviews

The last point we would like to cover today is the important of regularly collecting reviews from past and current clients and other professional you work with. 

Having reviews that you can share on your website, social media, but also on future proposals is a great way to market yourself. 

Most people you have a good relationship with will gladly provide you a review when being asked to. Have an email template ready asking for a review to you can ask once a project is completed. Specify the best way for the person to share that review with you and feel free to add additional pointers. Some people need extra inspiration so let them know if you would like them to cover a specific angle of your work for example.
